Source inputs

This is the section where you play all your music for Amp FreQQ to process.

Track A and Track B are the digital file players. (WAV MP3 FLAC M4A)

3 Methods to load and play tracks

1. Use the button marked LOAD on the image. This will open up a finder or Explorer window, select your file and open

2. Select your track using Finder or Explorer and simply click, drag and drop to any of these zones marked in blue

3. Use the built in Playlist feature. Playlist opens from the buttons above the Faders .Please see Playlist

The Transport controls are Load file, Play Stop, Rewind (Top to bottom) The buttons ether side are Playlist Next & Previous

The dials to the left of the rewind button, control the length of the rewind, from 0.5 to 4 seconds

In1 & In2 are auxiliary inputs and will accept audio from any source

ie. Turntable (vinyl) , CD player, phone, etc

1. Any source that is plugged into your connected interface in inputs 1 & 2

2. Any source that is recognised in our audio setting input options (USB Mic or USB Turntable)

3. Any source routed in via a third party app (Interapp audio routing) or if available directly in our audio setting input options . ie, YouTube, Spotify , DJ Apps**, DAW etc

Pan controls are provided should wish to use as stereo or 2 x mono inputs

Mute control is also provided as these inputs are open

There also two momentary trigger sends (REV and ECHO) that send audio from any of the Source Inputs to the FX Processors. This method allows for more accurate engagement of the FX and is the proprietary method of the FreQQs operation. In combination with the built-in bandfilters , the FX delivery works like magic to help you blend in new sound into your music ?

**If you use a dedicated controller with built-in audio interface then some of the budget models may not work in this method. Please see Audio Interface & routing

MIC

 

This is an additional auxiliary input for a mic and/ or Dubsiren, instrument etc

These are set on Amp FreQQs Inputs In3 & In4

To set your mic or aux, open “Settings”, “Audio Settings”, then “IO Settings”. Select your audio interfaces channels that you wish to assign on Input 3 & or 4.

If your audio interface supports separate inputs as channels, then in theory you can assign up to four independent inputs. Two on “Source Inputs” and two on Mic/Aux. Each with their own independent FX trigger sends. For other advanced routing please see additional information at Audio Interface & routing

Playbars

Playbars are where you can see the name of your current loaded track and the time left display.

You can also skip along a track here.

Normal Mode  –  Playbar displays current loaded track

Playbar View mode – Playbar now highlights and displays the current selected file in the playlist

To enter playbar mode by mouse, click the time left display.  Both A & B are mapped to toggle on/off with keyboard spacebar (Press twice first time) . To map on midi please use the time left sections as the midi point to assign to a midi toggle button

Kills (Killers)

The FreQQ’s backbone

The weight and treble (For those who understand 🙂 )

(For those who don’t….. ? “Weight and Treble” is the term that used to be used for the full range of sound, when, previously, you would only have a two way system, the “weight” (bass) and “treble” (top))

Kill switches are uniquely designed to give the user, visual band-width control of frequency and gain control for each band. To a certain extent, this will allow tuning of both the track being played and the speaker set up in use. The filter-band gain levels come set at 0dB on default settings.This is the maximum default, (however there is additional gain available of up to 12 dB (which can be changed in the Settings tab. Please use with caution!) and should be used to effectively remaster incoming audio for correction of unbalanced / or older vintage recordings. In other words you can use these gains like 4 band graphic EQ. but can of course be used as “performance EQ” on the fly.

The Frequency range for each band have been carefully chosen to provide as flat as sound as is possible, while retaining some colour to give a “sound system” sound delivery, and being set around about the general frequency crossovers of MOST box configurations. We do not recommend adjusting these drastically, however if you do, please try to ensure that the adjacent band/s are adjusted to meets the frequencies you just changed to avoid dips. (This is an open system and there are no rules, so feel free to adjust and experiment with caution!)

The VU meter displays the amount of signal being sent out to master from each of the kills. Before adjusting any killer faders, please ensure that there is sufficient headroom for the signal.
It is easier (and in most cases, more pleasing to the ear) to turn up an amp, and amplify a lower signal, than amplifying a louder (and possibly more compressed, “clipped” signal) by a lesser degree.

To set the bandwidth, click on the right margin of the width control box (It will highlight in red) and drag narrower or wider to your desired bandwidth, then click and drag horizontally into the chosen position. Set the fader to boost/Cut as required using the fader.
(Note: you can actually push the Sub bass band further to the left (lower) to catch those really low end frequencies!! (We HIGHLY recommend a LOWPASS FILTER on your crossover / LMS, of 20-25 though, as a vast proportion of drivers may be damaged by any frequency lower than that)

  • If you hover over the any band with your mouse* you will see the settings currently chosen in white, showing frequency from and to, and gain. These are set at 0dB on default and the frequencies are set as follows

Default & adjustable frequency centre ranges

Q factor (the “slope” at which the signal falls by, at crossover point) / bandwidth cut off points are unrestricted in both user and advanced modes
(Narrower “Q” will create a peak and restrict frequencies and wider has the opposite effect.

Sub Bass 37-97 Hz – Adjustable 20-150 Hz
Bass 95 – 253 Hz – Adjustable 95-300 Hz
Mids 250 – 3508 – Adjustable 250-4000 Hz
Tops 3509-20000 – Adjustable 3500 – 20,000Hz

*These readings are also displayed when adjusting any parameter via midi control

Dub Filter

This is a switchable high pass and low pass resonant filter. Simply turn clockwise to engage the filter and anti-clockwise fully to put it back to idle.

The switch determines which filter will be engaged and you can switch anytime

The Q slider controls the amount of resonance from 0 to 10

The routing selector:

A Works on source signal only
B Works on master signal
C Works on Samples only
D OFF

EQ Selector

We have a unique 3 way EQ system. The kill bands operate in a way to allow adjustment of frequency bands, hence a type of Parametric EQ. These will be sufficient for most needs, but we also have additional 4 band parametric and 10 Band Graphic EQs, which can be use in any combination with the kill bands.

3 Way Display panel & Custom Logo

This panel has three displays that can be selected using the 3 way Radio switch 

1. Displays the Spectrum Analyser that receives its signal from Master out * Note: Switch (Top right) Is to select logarithmic or linear FFT

2. Displays the 10 band and 4 band equalizers

3. Displays static image

*Drag and drop any image with transparent background onto the spectrum Analyser to display custom logo (On 1 & 3)

Image size 700 x 200 pixel. By using different level of transparent background you can make some nice effects
The app will remember the last loaded image

10 band Graphic and 4 Band Parametric

10-Band Graphic EQ gives subtle amounts of tone shaping and level control. With ten carefully chosen frequencies, It will let you boost or cut by 12dB

4 Band Parametric Equalizer

4 Band Parametric Equalizer

The Parametric Equalizer offers a way to EQ sound, before the audio arrives at the kill bands. the three controls function as follows:

Freq – Frequency

This determines where the range set below is positioned in the audio spectrum.

Range

This determines how wide or narrow the EQ band is. A setting further clockwise will narrow the range (imagine, visually,. a steep, tall hill), whereas a setting further clockwise produces a wider range (again, visually, imagine a shorter, wider hill). There Is a dynamic display which shows the current set range. In the Image for example the Sub Bass is set from 85hz to 248hz. Use in combination with Freq (frequency) control to set a group of frequencies to affect

Gain

This control adds or removes gain from the signal, so as to equate it to the other band’s gain levels.

USE WITH CAUTION, VERY POWERFUL

Siren

This is a custom designed Dub Siren with live variable controls

Click Setup to open the main Siren Panel

Source

Base Freq – Base frequency controls the pitch
Rate – Sampling rate *
Bits – Bitcrusher *
Depth – How pronounced that wave’s curve is (Square and Sine)
Rate – Rate is the frequency (meaning “how many times”) the wave generated goes from top to bottom (Square and Sine)
Chop – it as a commutator that acts as a very simple arpeggiator
Echo send level – amount of echo send level sent when echo trigger is engaged

System

Open – load any saved sets of presets you have made
Save – Simply change any settings on the siren ,select next preset, adjust again, once you have setup all 12. click save and name
Default – This will load FreQQs own siren presets
Echo Level – This controls the amount of signal routed to the Echo FX (When echo send switch is on)

Sample player

The twelve slot sample player can be used to play any audio clips such as jingles, adverts, dub siren clips or any other samples. They can be played via a dial and momentary trigger or via single buttons controlled via midi.

There are also independent reverb and echo sends, that can be momentary triggered via the keyboard or midi control.

The HP filter control is a high pass filter to remove unwanted bass frequencies In addition to this, whole tracks can be played through the sampler and you can use the bypass switch (BP) to have a cleaner (bypasses kills) signal to record.

Samples can be loaded in several ways.

– Click and drag a single sample and drop into the samples section in the main app interface, then turn the dial and repeat the process.

– You can also select several samples in Finder or Explorer (up to 12) and drop them directly onto the sample section (Not in panel)

– Open the panel, click and drag single samples to individual sample slots one by one.

Hovering over sample slots displays the loaded sample or audio file name

Echo send and High pass filter controls are also provided

When a sample slot is loaded, the slot will turn part yellow. When sample is engaged the whole slot displays yellow. The switches beside each slot, allow you to select momentary or full playback of the sample.

Samples are saved on exit and no need to reload.

Bandpass (BP) bypass switch route the sample audio directly to master bypassing the killer bands.* Echo and Reverb Momentary sends are included for sending samples to the built in FX

You can also map individual sample slots to any midi controller button, by using midi learn of the sample slots. 

FreQQ Tip  you could have a secondary pads only midi controller just for the sample player

FX

Default settings should work as a good starting point.

Both processors (reverb and echo) bypass the kills and go straight to Master. They also include band pass filters in their audio paths, therefore opening up creative expression that adaptss better to the music being played. Press the trigger send on any of the sources at the right times and musically interact with your track to create a special version.

NOTE : Amp FreQQ FX Delivery does not work in a way you may be used to. The send and return controls should be set up and left. Use the send triggers from the audio sources to deliver to the FX Processors. The gain controls on the EQ section, affects the band filter gain and is the best way to balance the sound the blend into you source audio.

  • The Direct switch controls how the filter works. When it is switched off the filter gain will be reduced and by opening the band filter to allow more frequencies to pass, you can achieve a much fuller unfiltered sound.

Built in bandfilter

Both of the FX processors have a graphical display, with frequency centre, bandwidth and gain control.

  • To set the Q (the slope at which the frequency either side of the crossover point, “falls away” (see our “hill” analogy previously). Click on the right margin of the control box (It will highlight red) and drag narrower or wider to your desired sound. Wider will allow for a fuller sound, whilst “narrower” will give a “punchier” sound, with a narrower frequency band.
  • Click and drag anywhere on the graph horizontally to select the frequency group you want to effect.
  • Click vertically to cut or boost.
  • If you hover over the any band with your mouse you will see the settings currently chosen in white, with the centre frequency, gain and Q.(also when any movement of controls is detected)

Please note the spectrum analyzer only displays the affected sound on the effects processors

Safe and advanced mode

This switch is located in the panel area, just above the limiters. Safe mode is recommended for beginners, and in fact, most users however experienced!

Some controls are not displayed in FX. (see above, where controls are marked “advanced” in brackets)

 

Advanced mode

Killer frequencies are now unlimited 20 – 20,000 and Bandfilter gain up to +32dB

FX frequencies now unlimited 20 – 20,000 and Bandfilter  gain up to +32dB

Dubfilter is now unrestricted and filters the full range of frequency

(NOTE: Using the advanced settings should only be done if you feel or find that an existing setting is “lacking”, and we include them for completion and making sure that every setting is as effective as can be. Again, we recommend fully experimenting with the safe mode settings before coming here. Also, if you are not sure which to set to what, for which effect, do not hesitate to message us, and we can sort your issue and give advice

Limiters

These are located in the panel. Each FX limiter is set on as default, please adjust these depending on your needs. Sliding the fader to the left will reduce the overall output gain available. These can be used both for protection and also creatively. The master is set off on default

Session recorder

A simple record function is available at the bottom of the Panel section.

To make a recording ….

  • Simply click File to the left and this will open up a browser, give a name to your file. Click save
  • When you are ready to begin , click the Start button in the middle and it will begin to record (the LED will come on) Press Stop when finished, the LED switches off and the recording will be completed.
